How to buy our services

Comprehensive Service

This is an outline description of the services covered by the subscription.

Exchange Service

The school has a long-term deposit loan collection of at least two books per pupil (minimum of 200 books for smaller schools). This collection is refreshed by regular exchanges of new or different titles.

Curriculum Topic Collections

Books and other items are available for teachers, librarians and teaching assistants to borrow, on request. These collections are intended to boost school resources on a temporary basis (usually a term). This service includes Group Readers and Playsets.

SLS Bookshop

We offer a variety of ways for schools to spend their bookfunds with confidence and to best effect.  Teachers and librarians can select from a wide range of stock at discount prices:

  • Book Exhibition Collection (key stages 1 & 2) at 20% discount
  • Petranet online ordering with 20% discount
  • SLS Bookshop for off-the-shelf purchase at 10% discount
  • ordering service for books not available from the shelves

All books come ready to use, fully serviced with stationery and protective book jackets (small servicing charge per book).

Books purchased through SLS can be exchanged through the Exchange service, so the value of the book lives on beyond its natural shelf-life.

Advice and Practical Support

Experienced SLS librarians will help you achieve a more effective school library by providing advice and hands-on help with various aspects of school libraries and book provision, including assistance with the recruitment and training of Learning Resource Centre staff, and help with self-evaluation.

Other Services

Schools have access to our quick-query Helpline.

SLS website for booklists, Best Practice Guides and latest news. Easy-to-use pages give direct access to SLS for up-to-date information, topic requests, queries and complaints.

Free membership of support groups facilitated by SLS.

Special Discounts for in-school training on library management systems (MLS Systems).

Schools can count on Disaster Recovery Support which provides extra help if library books are damaged by flood, fire or similar bad luck. SLS can provide emergency books to fill the gap and help school staff to assess the damage for insurance purposes.
